Wisconsin
has been known as the "Badger State" for decades. In the 1800's, hundreds
of miners entered the state and were too busy to build homes. They
were forced to live like badgers in holes that were tunneled into
hillsides or in abandoned mine shafts. The badger is a brave and tough
animal. It has been known to drive off a full-grown bear that invaded
and challenged its territory. For more than 30 years, "Bucky Badger"
has represented Wisconsin athletics. |
