Sooner Schooner was introduced in 1964,
but did not become official mascot until 1980. The Schooner is a miniature
replica of a Conestoga Wagon, painted crimson and cream and pulled
by two Welsh Arabian ponies, named Boomer and Sooner. The Schooner
represents the spirit that brought settlers to Oklahoma during the
land rush, and now represents The University
of Oklahoma athletics. The Student body approved the official
school colors Crimson and Cream in the fall of 1895. |
